Our most frequently asked question at Coravin is about the usage of the Coravin Capsules. We state on our website that each Coravin Capsule will allow you to access approximately 15 five ounce pours of wine. This is true! We know this because the Coravin Capsules contain compressed argon gas, which expands when put into the bottle, thereby “pressurizing” the bottle. To release the pressure, the same volume of wine that the decompressed argon gas fills inside of the bottles, flows out through the needle until the bottle returns back down to atmospheric pressure. Our Engineering Team has conducted extensive testing of this volume, and determined that, including the “purge” before and after access, and any variation for putting excess gas into the bottle, each Capsule contains enough argon gas for approximately 15 five ounce glasses of wine!
Like anything, practice with your Coravin Capsules makes perfect.
