Warm summer days and weekend brunches… Sounds familiar? We say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so how about accompanying it with the complex and timeless beverage that is wine?
Who said a mimosa had to be your go-to drink when enjoying a breakfast? Savory brunch food pairs just as well with wine. For those of you who have a hard time finding the right food-wine marriage, scroll down for inspiration with three alternatives!
Eggs and… Riesling or Chardonnay.
Eggs are known for being difficult to pair, this is why our first piece of advice would be to go for a light, unoaked wine. Try to stay away from the tannins as well – in other words, think white. The roundness and delicate sweetness of a dry Riesling or the soft flavor of a Chardonnay are your best bet to pair with your morning eggs.
Pancakes or French Toast and… Prosecco.
The traditionally sweet toppings call for a white wine with dry lemony flavors and soft bubbles. You guessed it, Prosecco! The Italian wine will be fantastic with your pancakes and French toasts. For you crepes lovers, we would recommend to serve them with a Sauvignon Blanc – you will not be disappointed.
Steak or ham and… Merlot.
For breakfast proteins, go with the Merlot. The wine is a perfect partner for a lightly-spiced meat, easy to drink, with not too much acidity and a smooth finish.
If none of these options work for you, we suggest a dry rosé or sparkling wine – you can never go wrong with these breakfast-friendly wines.
